Kieran Maguire: Aston Villa on course for £24m windfall after Grealish exit
Jack Grealish was the “poster boy” at Aston Villa – but the club need not worry about a commercial slump following his exit to Man City.
So says finance expert Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Villa confirmed the playmaker’s departure on 5th August.
This site revealed the previous day that City would pay Villa £75million up front rising by a further £25m.
As per their most recent set of accounts, Villa made £23.7m from commercial and sponsorship avenues in the last financial year.
And Maguire does not forecast that Grealish’s departure will have a significant impact on this revenue stream.
“I think commercially, they’ll be okay,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“They’ve got Danny Ings coming and he is a pretty high-profile player. Villa aren’t a big fish in a small pond like, for example, Rangers or Celtic in Scotland.
“He would clearly be the number one person sponsors would want to be linked with. He’s the poster boy.
“However, I don’t think he’d be the difference between them signing a deal and not signing a deal.
“I don’t think he moves the dial that much in terms of the amount of money Villa will be able to extract from an individual sponsor.”
Grealish scored 32 times and supplied 43 assists in his 213 games for Villa.
The 25-year-old made his debut for City in the 1-0 Community Shield loss to Leicester City yesterday (7th August).
