Football Insider gazes into its crystal ball and predicts the Liverpool team for the opening day of the 2017/18 campaign.
Jurgen Klopp will certainly be looking to strengthen his side in the summer transfer window, regardless of whether they finish inside the top four.
The Merseyside club were considered to be serious title contenders at one stage this season, but now face a tough battle to gain a Champions League place.
Liverpool’s starting XI has been a plus point for the majority and they have been able to compete at the top-end of the table, but there have been serious questions marks over their squad depth.
Klopp will certainly be looking to bring in some fresh faces to bolster his squad, while three new marquee signings could be on the cards to improve their starting line-up.
Joe Hart, Andrew Robertson and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have all been reported targets for the Merseyside club, and would help provide a formidable looking side for next season.
The Reds have also been linked with the likes of Mahmoud Dahoud, Christian Pulisic and Julian Brandt, but those emerging youngsters would most likely make the bench.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for England international Hart, who is currently on a season-long loan at Torino after being frozen out by Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
The Reds look almost certain to pursue a new goalkeeper in the summer after mistakes from Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet, and will be keen to beat off competition from Arsenal for the Premier League winner.
Klopp will be keen to bolster his leaky defence and Virgil van Dijk would be an excellent addition, but the Sun report the centre-back is set to stay at Southampton.
The Reds could line-up with familiar trio Nathaniel Clyne, Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip in their defence, but will certainly bring in a natural left-back to replace James Milner.
The Sun claim that Liverpool are keeping an eye on Hull’s £10million-rated Robertson, who would give great width up and down the left flank.
Klopp could use a midfield trio of Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana and Philippe Coutinho, with all three of them favourites at Anfield.
Meanwhile, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino could keep their places in the frontline and join highly rated Aubameyang in attack.
The Sun claim that Liverpool are eyeing a move for Borussia Dortmund striker Aubameyang and would fund a £40million swoop.
The 27-year-old has scored a fantastic 101 goals in 168 games for Dortmund and his pace would surely fit into Klopp’s style.
In other Liverpool transfer news, the club’s playmaker is set to agree a new deal.
