BBC journalist: Arsenal ready to pull plug on striker deal as club move goalposts on fee

BBC journalist David Ornstein has provided a significant update to the drama surrounding Arsenal’s late striker transfers.
In a tweet that he published on his official Twitter page, Ornstein said that while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s medical is scheduled for Wednesday, Chelsea’s move for Olivier Giroud is not progressing as smoothly.
He claims that a £20m move had been set up but that Chelsea, and chiefly Marina Granovskaia, was trying to hammer down the price at the last minute and that Arsenal were all set to pull the plug.
That could result in them sending Giroud out on loan to Borussia Dortmund – if he agrees – and helping to seal the deal for Aubameyang.
Arsenal cannot complete the deal for Aubameyang unless Dortmund sign a replacement.
Giroud’s move to Chelsea was going to leave Michy Batshuayi free to join Dortmund on loan but it looks like penny-pinching from Chelsea could scupper the complicated moves.

Prominent Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur claims that Batshuayi is very keen on a move to Dortmund but is expected to join up with the Chelsea squad ahead of their Premier League game against Bournemouth tomorrow unless things change

Football Insider verdict:
Arsenal always seem to be involved in late drama around transfers but it seems they’re not to blame this time. This looks like a serious case of brinksmanship from Chelsea, who are aware that Arsenal are running out of time to complete the Aubameyang deal. Giroud is worth more than £20m and if Chelsea insist on playing stupid then Arsenal should call their bluff, call the move off and hope Giroud is happy joining Dortmund. That would leave them with an unhappy Batshuayi and a weakened squad.
In other Arsenal transfer news, this goalkeeper could be on the verge of joining Leeds United.
