Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has called for the Magpies fans to create an electric atmosphere at St James Park this afternoon, as Manchester United come to town.
Acknowledging that his side is not as star-studded as is Jose Mourinho’s, Benitez wants a “hot” to put the pressure on the Red Devils.
“Hopefully it will be like that again,” Benitez responded when asked about the vibe at recent home games, speaking in a press conference as quoted by the Newcastle Chronicle.
“If we can create this type of pressure from the beginning and have an atmosphere it has to be a positive for us.”
The Magpies are slap bang in the middle of a relegation battle, currently sitting 17th in the Premier League, only outside of the drop zone by goal difference.
Benitez is going to need all the help he can get, as the United fixture is the first of three unfavourable matches, as the Magpies have to play both Bournemouth and Liverpool in the coming weeks.
The former Liverpool manager came under fire for his recent tactics, especially in the game against league leaders Manchester City, however his gameplan is clear concerning their domestic rivals, United.
“We want to be on top of them and be on the front-foot from the beginning that will be fantastic.”
“But if we can keep the atmosphere hot it will create pressure for them.”
A win for Newcastle would see them jump three places in the league to 14th, as the rear end of the Premier League is tight in terms of points.
In other Newcastle news, it has been confirmed that the Magpies best a host of clubs to this strikes signature.
