Benitez delivers verdict on Aston Villa, identifies six of their qualities
By Danny Wright
Rafa Benitez has jumped to the defence of Aston Villa after Newcastle beat them 2-0 on Monday and identified their six main qualities.
The Magpies manager has said that Villa can be happy with the way that they play, but also adds that he believes there is a serious lack of confidence about the players.
“I am convinced, they are a very good team,” the Spaniard said, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail. “They have good players, they can pass, run, hold ball, and beat players one on one.
“Maybe now they don’t have confidence because football is a state of mind. They have quality and experience.”
Yoan Gouffran and a Henri Lansbury own goal consigned Steve Bruce’s side to their fifth successive loss in the Championship and they are now without a win since Boxing Day.

They linger just six points clear of the relegation zone with three teams below them playing one less game.
Villa and Newcastle were relegated with each other from the Premier League last season but the Magpies’ season has took a very different route to that of the Midlands club.
Benitez’s side are currently top of the Championship and look a sure bet to return to the top flight on their first attempt, as they did with their only previous relegation from the Premier League when they won the 2009/10 title with a massive 102 points.
Bruce and his side face Derby County in front of their home fans in their next outing on Saturday before what could be classed as a ‘relegation six-pointer’ against Bristol City three days later.
