Benitez details critical Newcastle transfer tactics after revealing important target talks

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has said that it is critical that the club get their transfer business done quickly in January after revealing he had held important talks with managing director Lee Charnley.

The Magpies have found themselves having to endure an abysmal run of form in recent weeks, having picked up just one point from a possible 24, with seven defeats and a draw in their last eight games.

Benitez has previously said that the club’s fortunes come down to the lack of quality in the squad at present, and that he would be looking to change that in the upcoming transfer window.

Now he has revealed that he held critical transfer talks with club chief Lee Charnley on Thursday, in which the pair identified targets for the January market as well as those who could be shipped out from St James’ Park.

He says that he is hoping to see immediate progress over the coming days, as he looks to opt for the tactic of securing reinforcements as soon as possible in the new year.

The Spanish boss is quoted by Sky Sports as saying: “I had a conversation with Lee yesterday. We were talking about what we want to do and players that maybe we would like to bring here, or players that maybe could go for any reason.

“We have already started this discussion and then we will see if we can progress in a few days.

“The main thing, we had this conversation, then we have to move forward quickly. I don’t know the details but at least we were talking about that.

“We have to progress and it is so obvious that we have to improve things.”

Benitez publicly voiced his frustration at the club’s approach during the summer window, in which the Magpies saw five new faces through the door, and will be hoping that they are able to secure his top targets come January.

In other Newcastle United transfer news, this Premier League regular revealed his rage at not being able to secure a move to the Magpies over summer.
