Benitez opens up on team selection which left Newcastle fans fuming v Bournemouth

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has explained his decision to bring on Ayoze Perez over Aleksandar Mitrovic during the club’s defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday.
The Spanish boss chose to swap out Joselu for his fellow countryman with just over 20 minutes to play during the 1-0 loss, which came as a result of a injury time winner for the Cherries.
The decision was not taken well by a fuming Toon Army as they turned to Twitter to voice their frustrations, suggesting that Serbian forward Mitrovic would have had more of an impact at St James’ Park.
Speaking after the match, Benitez chose to explain his decision, indicating that he wanted a different type of player on the pitch to try and make a difference.
He was quoted by the Chronicle as saying over the decision: “I thought Ayoze could give us some good movements.

“They are different kinds of player, different movements.
“We gave the ball away easily without great pressing, and we were giving them chances to play on the counter-attack.”
Mitrovic has found his playing time for the club severely limited this season, with just three appearances to his name across all competitions, but is yet to have been named among the starting XI in the Premier League.
He scored after coming off the bench in the 3-0 win over West Ham but was subsequently suspended for three matches after being charged with violent conduct.
He has appeared in the matchday squad just twice since as Benitez has proven his preference for fellow strikers Joselu and Dwight Gayle.
In other Newcastle United team news, the club have been left sweating over the fitness of this first team star.
