Leeds United are favourites to re-sign Swansea forward Oli McBurnie in the summer transfer window, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.
BetVictor have priced the Yorkshire giants at 4/1 to sign the Scotland international, but they could face stern competition from second-favourites Rangers (6/1) after it was reported by the Sun that the Scottish club have tabled a bid worth £4million for the former Elland Road academy player.
Derby (8/1) and newly-promoted Cardiff (12/1) are also in the running to sign McBurnie, who had been in stunning form on loan at Barnsley in the second half of the season, despite them being relegated from the Championship.
Football Insider verdict
It seems that there will be quite a race to sign McBurnie in the summer transfer window, but given Swansea’s relegation from the Premier League, the Welsh club are bound to be fighting tooth and nail to keep hold of him. That £4million bid tabled by Rangers is a lot for them and should be something that Leeds could match and improve on. McBurnie was born in Leeds and played in their academy before being released at the age of 15 before he joined Bradford. Even though he is Yorkshire born and raised, he is still a massive Rangers supporter. Leeds had their chance with the striker, so maybe if he had the choice over the two, he would pick Ibrox over Elland Road. Both clubs will be lucky to sign up McBurnie though. His form at Barnsley proved that he is a capable goalscorer having found the net nine times in 17 appearances across all competitions. Leeds’ strikers have been misfiring all season so it’s definitely and area of concern for them while Rangers may see one or two of their current forwards leave, opening up a space for McBurnie.
In other Rangers news, the Gers are firmly in the running to sign this £120,000-a-week Liverpool star in the summer.
