'Bodes well for the future' - Exclusive: Leeds make move to sign young midfielder, pundit raves

Alex Bruce insists it “bodes well for the future” that Leeds United have made an approach to sign Sunderland rising star Daniel Neill.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Leeds and Hull City defender believes it is important the Whites continue to recruit up and coming talent who could one day make the step up.

As revealed by Football Insider, the Whites have made an approach to sign the 18-year-old from the Stadium of Light for what would be a six-figure fee.

There are two other Premier League sides in the hunt for the goalscoring midfielder but Leeds believe they can lure him to Elland Road by moving swiftly for his capture.

The promising teenager is yet to feature for Sunderland’s senior side but was a regular for the under-23s during the 2019/20 campaign.

Bruce believes that it can only be good news that the Whites are looking to recruit hot prospects this summer.

Bruce told Football Insider: “It bodes well for the future that Leeds are looking and getting linked with good, young, hungry prospects full of energy, full of desire.

“It can only be good for the future of Leeds United.”

Leeds have a proud record of youth prospects making the grade at Elland Road and Marcelo Bielsa has used a number of youngsters during his time as manager.

Kalvin Phillips is well-established in the starting XI while the likes of Jamie Shackleton, Jack Clarke and Bailey Peacock-Farrell have all broken into the senior side at a young age.

In other Leeds United news, Bruce has been blown away by one man in a “laughable” comparison.
