'Brilliant...World Superpower' - Exclusive: Top pundit reacts to £8.5m Tottenham reveal

Paul Robinson has insisted it is not a relief for Tottenham Hotspur to finally get Mauricio Pochettino and his coaching staff off the wage bill.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England goalkeeper tipped Pochettino to return to the Premier League after managing Paris Saint-Germain with his reputation enhanced.

The Argentine is set to replace the outgoing Thomas Tuchel at the Parc des Princes after he was sacked on Tuesday.

Football Insider revealed the news will give Spurs a financial boost with Pochettino and three members of his coaching staff set to be removed from the wage bill.

The quartet were dismissed by the north London giants last November but have still been paid their salaries by the club – including Pochettino’s £8.5million-a-year wages.

Asked by Football Insider whether it is a relief for Tottenham to get Pochettino and his coaching staff off their wage bill, Robinson said: “It’s not a relief.

“It’s a fantastic job, a brilliant job for him.

“They’ve got fantastic ownership, the club as a business is so well run. It’s one of the world’s superpowers in football.

“The way the club’s run it’s going to be a fantastic opportunity to get some silverware.

“He’s got an extremely good CV but this is the opportunity now to go win some things. He didn’t win anything with Spurs but his reputation was enhanced no end.

“He became one of the world’s best coaches without really winning anything so now he’s got an opportunity to go to one of the world’s best clubs with one of the world’s best owners and to have the backing to have the players on the field to enhance his reputation even more.

“I have no doubt Pochettino will go to PSG and win trophies, challenge in the Champions League and potentially even win the Champions League, win domestic trophies.

“He’ll come back to the Premier League at some point in the not-so-distant future with his reputation severely enhanced.”
