Bruce confirms major double Aston Villa injury boost ahead of clash v Norwich

By Danny Wright

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has confirmed that Ahmed Elmohamady and Scott Hogan could be in line to play in Saturday’s clash with Norwich at Villa Park.

Hogan, 25, limped out of Tuesday’s loss at Reading with an ankle injury, but it seems that his setback isn’t as serious as first thought with the striker in contention to play against the Canaries.

In 17 appearances since signing from Brentford in January, Hogan has only managed to score two goals, but Bruce is still short of options in attack and it is no doubt a boost to have him back in his side.

Elmohamady, 29, missed the 2-1 defeat at Reading after picking up a mouth injury in last weekend’s loss to Cardiff which left him in need of 33 stitches.

Bruce, as indirectly quoted by Villa’s official Twitter account on Friday, says the Egyptian international has “declared himself fit” for the meeting with Norwich, where the West Midlands side will be hoping to earn their first Championship win of the season.

Villa have lost two of their opening three fixtures of the Championship campaign despite being touted as one of the teams to secure promotion back to the top-flight.

It is no doubt a major boost for Bruce to have two of his signings back on board in time for the showdown with Norwich, which will arguably be a very tough fixture for an out-of-form side.

In other Aston Villa news, the club are in talks to sign this Premier League striker but are facing tough competition from fierce rivals Birmingham.
