Bruno Guimaraes sends stunned message to Sven Botman after Newcastle victory

Newcastle defender Sven Botman posted a “special” message on social media after the Magpies secured their place in the Carabao Cup final.

Eddie Howe’s side won 4-0 on aggregate after a 2-0 victory on 5 February. Alexander Isak caused early problems against the Gunners. Arsenal have been constantly linked with Isak and he proved his quality once again.

After his shot crashed against the post, Jacob Murphy was quick to tap in the rebound to ease any early nerves.

Anthony Gordon, who also scored in the first leg, capitalised on a mistake from David Raya. The Arsenal goalkeeper misplaced a pass to Declan Rice, allowing Fabian Schar to intercept and allow Gordon to finish with ease, sealing Newcastle’s place in the final.

Newcastle secure historic win over Arsenal to book Wembley spot

Defender Botman decided to post on Instagram after the victory, writing: “Special night in a special place, on to Wembley.”

His teammate Bruno Guimaraes, who is a Newcastle star heavily linked with a move away to Man City, responded with: “You’re that good bro”. Meanwhile, goalscorer Murphy also praised Botman’s performance, simply commenting: “Just wow.”

The Dutch defender has played limited minutes since returning from injury earlier this season, making just six league appearances, including three starts. Botman’s initial return earlier in the year brought excitement to Newcastle fans—and with good reason.

Signed for £34.5 million in 2022, his comeback will be a major boost for the club as he looks to regain full fitness for the rest of the season.

Football Insider Verdict

Botman’s performances and return will bring great confidence to Newcastle, as Howe will need all his key players fit in their bid to win the club’s first major trophy since 1955.

As for Guimaraes, his performances have been imperative to the side, so supporters are likely to be excited with his high praise despite links away from the club.

Arsenal continue trophy drought under Mikel Arteta

As for Arsenal, the odds were stacked against them before this game after losing the first leg 2-0. The defeat means they are now out of both domestic competitions, following an early FA Cup exit to Manchester United in the third round.

Their last major trophy came in 2020 when they won the FA Cup in dramatic fashion during Mikel Arteta’s first season. However, they have not come close to silverware in a cup competition since.
