Borussia Dortmund are interested in Tottenham defensive midfielder Victor Wanyama, according to a report.
SportBild claim that while new manager Lucien Favre hasn’t joined yet, and is still on his holidays, he is in personal contact with the club as they look to bring in new recruits this summer.
One name on his list is the Tottenham 6ft powerhouse, Wanyama, who is under contract at Spurs until 2021.
The report claims that as he isn’t a regular starter for Tottenham, Dortmund hope they can convince him to join this summer.
Football Insider verdict:
Wanyama only made 18 Premier League appearances last season, with many of those coming from the bench. However, a lot of that was down to an injury that kept him sidelined from August until December. He started four out of the last five league games for Tottenham and would still be seen as a hugely important member of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad. He could be even more critical next season if Mousa Dembele leaves, which is looking more likely now. Pochettino won’t want to lose both of his defensive midfield rocks and if Dembele does go, to China or even to Italy, that could scupper any hopes Dortmund have of prising the 26-year-old from Tottenham’s grasp. If he does go, he’ll command a huge fee, with his contract stretching to 2021. Spurs paid Southampton £13million for him two years ago, but he’ll go for a lot more than that after his two seasons at Spurs.
In other Tottenham transfer news, Levy is plotting a £15million swoop for a Championship playmaker.
