Pedro Caixinha has confirmed that Rangers are still assessing the fitness of both Bruno Alves and Declan John ahead of Saturday’s Old Firm clash with Celtic.
The defensive duo both limped off the pitch in Tuesday night’s extra time win over Partick Thistle in the League Cup and doubts have surrounded whether they will be available for this weekend’s all-Glasgow showdown at Ibrox.
Alves, 35, suffered an injury to his calf in the win at Firhill while John, 22, had an issue with his thigh.
Now, Caixinha has refused to give much away about the pair’s fitness levels going into what will undoubtedly be the biggest game of the season so far.
“We are still assessing Bruno Alves and Declan John at this moment,” said the Ibrox boss in his pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon, as quoted by Rangers’ official Twitter account.

Alves has been a pivotal part of the Gers first-team this season ever since he signed from Cagliari in the summer transfer window.
The Portgual international has been hailed as one of the best signings Caixinha has made in Glasgow and he has since appeared eight times across all competitions, scoring one goal.
John also signed for the Light Blues in the summer when he arrived on loan from Cardiff.
The jury is still out on the Welsh full-back though as he has only earned two appearances for Rangers at this stage of the season.
In other Rangers news, John Brown has issued a warning about the Gers’ summer signings ahead of the clash with Celtic.
