New Rangers signing Scott Arfield has admitted he could “only smile” at getting the nod to complete his move to Ibrox from incoming manager Steven Gerrard – and revealed he is “buzzing” to start the next chapter of his career.
Arfield becomes the first signing of the Gerrard era after completing a four-year deal to join the Ibrox giants as they look to end Celtic’s dominance of Scottish football in recent years.
The 29-year old revealed that he hopes his spell at Ibrox is as successful as his eight years in England – and insisted he will do “everything to make it that way.”
“If somebody of that calibre green lights the move you can only smile,” Arfield said, as quoted by STV.
“I’m buzzing, I’m ecstatic to get this over the line and the next chapter is going to be exciting.
“I hope it’s as successful as my time in England and I’ll do everything to make it that way.”
Football Insider verdict
As a midfielder it must be a great feeling to get the green light from one of the best ever to have played in that part of the pitch. Knowing he is now going to get the chance to work under him and pick up bits and pieces will also have been a big draw for Arfield to come to the Ibrox giants. After eight years down south, Arfield returns to Scottish football a much better player and will almost certainly be pivotal in any success the Gers have under Gerrard next term. If the Gers continue to bring in quality additions like Arfield then they will go a long way to closing the gap to bitter rivals Celtc and ending their dominance of Scottish football in recent years. You could tell from the way Arfield spoke that he is excited about playing for the Gers and, hopefully, he can repay the faith shown in him and end the Light Blues’ long wait to lift a major trophy.
