Celtic boss Rodgers delivers verdict on Gerrard taking Rangers job
Brendan Rodgers has admitted he was taken aback when he heard that Steven Gerrard was being linked to the Rangers job.
AS quoted by the BBC’s Chris McLaughlin, Rodgers said: “It’s all about when you feel the time is right.
“When it’s your first job it’s not necessarily about the club, it’s about the right club.”
Brendan Rodgers on Gerrard to #Rangers: “little bit surprised. It’s all about when you feel time is right. When it’s your first job it’s not necessarily about the club, it’s about the right club.”

Gerrard has been linked heavily with the Ibrox job, with the latest report from the Guardian claiming that the job is Gerrard’s if he wants it.
There was one sticking point and that was the money Rangers would give him to invest in the squad, but the Guardian claims that Gerrard is in possession of the financials and that Rangers are still very confident he will sign in the next 48 hours.
That will put Rodgers and Gerrard up against each other next season in what could be a very interesting season.

Football Insider verdict:
It’s fair to say that this news probably took everyone by surprise – Brendan Rodgers, Rangers, Celtic and Liverpool fans, and possibly Graeme Murty. Rodgers is being a bit cryptic with what he says here. Is he inferring that Gerrard should be careful about the club he chooses and having a slight dig at Rangers? Or is he giving his tacit backing as best he can without wanting to annoy Celtic fans. They no doubt have a lot of respect for each other and their first Old Firm clash – if the deal happens – will be one for the ages.
