'Absolute scenes', 'Never be sad again' – Celtic fans react as PL attacker reportedly wants to sign

By Harry Sykes

Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts is set to tell his club that he wants to return on loan to Celtic this season, according to a BBC journalist.

Kenny Macintyre, who works for BBC Radio Scotland, said Roberts would inform Man City on Tuesday, and that fan messages had played a big part in him wanting to return north of the border.

He posted the news on his official Twitter account on Tuesday morning.

Celtic fans are made up – and will be especially happy that Roberts has been following what they say about him on social media.

He joined Celtic in February 2016 and became an instant hit at the club as his marauding ways on the wing banked a big return.

He made a total of 60 appearances for the club, scoring 17 goals and adding 21 assists, and was a big part of the champions going the whole of last season unbeaten on the domestic front.

It was looking more and more unlikely that he’d be making a return to Celtic, but fans will now be hoping that Roberts personal preference will sway Man City towards an agreement.

Here is a selection of their reactions to the latest Roberts news, with some seemingly set to be unhappy unless he signs on a permanent deal:
