Celtic have a huge chance to sign West Brom and Republic of Ireland winger James McClean in the summer.
The Express and Star has reported that the Baggies are set to have a very busy summer transfer window with their relegation from the Premier League all but confirmed and McClean, 28, is likely to be one player who attracts a lot of attention.
McClean has previously admitted that he would “give anything” to play for Celtic before the end of his career and many fans believe that Brendan Rodgers should try to make it happen at some point in the future due to the alignment of his relgious and political beliefs, as well as the fact that the Premier League flyer is a lifelong Bhoy.
The Telegraph [10:28am] reported in January that West Brom rated the former Wigan and Sunderland player at £15million after Derby tried to sign him in the January transfer window, but that valuation is sure to be slashed once the Baggies’ drop to the Championship is set in stone.
Rodgers may find himself in need of reinforcements on the wings as well this summer with Patrick Roberts’ loan deal set to end and with Scott Sinclair being linked with returning to England after two seasons at Parkhead.
McClean could end up being the perfect solution to seeing those leave with the Republic of Ireland international so keen to play for the Hoops and because he can more than fill in multiple gaps due to his ability to also do a job at left-back.
The Telegraph had reported that West Brom were planning to offload the 28-year-old this season and with the likelihood of a number of potential suitors in the summer, there’s every chance that Celtic will be able to sign him.
In other Celtic news, the Hoops are in the running to sign this former Rangers midfielder.
