Davies would be a top signing for Celtic after ESPN update - Robinson

Ben Davies would be a “good signing” for Celtic but any deal will have to wait until a new manager is appointed.

That is according to ex-England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after ESPN reported on 4th June that Liverpool will consider listening to offers for Davies this summer.

This site revealed that Celtic were in advanced talks to sign Davies in January only for Liverpool to hijack the move at the eleventh hour.

But Davies, whose deal runs until 2025, failed to make a single appearance for the Reds in 2020-21 after completing his switch from Preston.

Robinson claims that it will be “very interesting” to see whether Celtic go back in for the 25-year-old given that they will soon be under new management.

He told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs: “It will be very interesting. It will give you an insight as to who signed the players, whether it’s the manager or the board.

“I think he would be a good signing for Celtic but I can’t see anyone coming in until the new manager comes in.

“He [Ange Postecoglou] looks like a manager who likes to have control, who man-manages things, who works with the players he wants.

“So I’d be surprised if Celtic signed anyone until the manager is confirmed.”

This site revealed on 3 June that Celtic have agreed a compensation package with Postecoglou’s current club Yokohoma F. Marinos.

That leaves the Glasgow club free to appoint the 55-year-old manager, 103 days after Neil Lennon’s resignation.

In other news, Leigh Griffiths told to quit Celtic in coming days amid new transfer update.
