Jan swoop for international defender will show Celtic mean business after reported interest

Reports from the French football website ButFootball claim that both Saint-Etienne and Celtic are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic – and he is a player that Brendan Rodgers should think very strongly about signing.
The 29-year-old Serbian international is the sort of experienced player that could prove to be a leader in the Hoops side, particularly as new signing Marvin Compper is ruled out for the next month.
Subotic has played almost 200 times for the German side, winning two Bundesliga titles, but has fallen out for favour in recent times, spending time on loan at FC Koln but he returned to the first-team this season, making five appearances overall.
Not only would Subotic be an experienced player that the Hoops need, he would also be able to mentor Kristoffer Ajer, who at only 19-years-old seems set to be a mainstay in the Bhoys defence for years to come.
A fee of £2.65million, which has been quoted for the player on seems like a good price for a player who could play for at least another five seasons in Scotland if he manages to keep his fitness levels up.
The signing would show that the Hoops mean business in the second-half of the season but for the seasons ahead.
