Celtic have been left waiting by the phone after making an offer for Hull City striker Abel Hernandez, according to a report.

Italian football news website TuttoMercato claims that the Hoops are set to battle it out with Serie A side Bolonga to sign the 27-year-old, whose contract with the Championship based side runs out at the end of the season.

The report reveals that talks have taken place with the players’ advisers and the Hoops, but no decision has yet been made by the Uruguay international, who is also interesting the 11th-placed Serie A club.

Hernandez has played only eight times for Hull this season, but in that time he has managed to score seven goals, after missing much of the season after having surgery on his Achilles.

Football Insider verdict

The Hoops will certainly be looking for a striker this summer, particularly if Moussa Dembele leaves, but it’s hard to say if Hernandez fits the bill. The player does have an excellent scoring record, but his injury problems will undeniably be a concern to Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers. Perhaps as he is going to be on a free transfer he is worth taking a punt on, but fans might be underwhelmed at the player who will be Dembele’s replacement. The Hoops will no doubt be linked with plenty of players in the upcoming weeks, only time will tell if this story is true.
