‘Chelsea handed unique transfer opportunity’ after £64m Serhou Guirassy update
Chelsea are one of a few teams who can trigger Serhou Guirassy’s release clause at Borussia Dortmund and have good reason to do so.
Enzo Maresca is crying out for Chelsea to sign a new striker this summer over any other position bar none, with the Italian under huge pressure to deliver after a below-par debut season at Stamford Bridge.
While many Chelsea fans are keen to see their goalkeeping stocks refreshed, particularly after Kepa Arrizabalaga’s impressive performances for Bournemouth, it’s up front where Maresca must prioritise.
Behind the Blues’ first choice number nine Nicolas Jackson, there is daylight and then the rest, with the Senegalese international’s injuries this season leaving Chelsea with no real alternatives to use up front.

Chelsea given Serhou Guirassy transfer opening
While Chelsea are one of several clubs keen on Ipswich Town’s 22-year-old frontman Liam Delap this summer, Maresca could instead opt for a striker with more experience, at the other end of the age scale.
Sky Germany journalist Patrick Berger reported on X (16 April) that Serhou Guirassy‘s contract until 2028 at Borussia Dortmund includes a release clause, valued at anywhere between £51million and £64m.
Player | Appearances | Starts | Goals | Assists | Games Missed |
Nicolas Jackson | 27 | 24 | 9 | 5 | 16 |
Christopher Nkunku | 41 | 21 | 14 | 5 | 6 |
Marc Guiu | 13 | 5 | 6 | 0 | 24 |
Serhou Guirassy | 40 | 37 | 28 | 9 | 5 |
That release clause, however, only becomes valid after this summer’s Club World Cup and can only be triggered by certain clubs, including Chelsea and Real Madrid, with the 29-year-old in free-scoring form.
Guirassy has no immediate plans to leave Dortmund, but having become the Champions League’s top scorer with a hat-trick against Barcelona on Tuesday, expect summer transfer interest to be renewed.
Chelsea likely to explore other options than Serhou Guirassy
Football Insider reported back in December 2023 that Guirassy, then of Stuttgart, was a top target for both Man United and West Ham, but 18 months on, the Guinean is yet to feature in the Premier League.
Although his 13 Champions League goals make up almost half of an impressive 28 across 40 games in his first season with Dortmund, Guirassy having just turned 29 will likely put Chelsea off an approach.
Chelsea’s striking department is set to undergo plenty of change this summer with the likes of Joao Felix set to return to Stamford Bridge, but with BlueCo’s transfer priority massively prioritising young players, even Felix looks more likely to play up front in Maresca’s side next term.
