Chelsea ‘plotting massive Murillo move, this is what I’m hearing’
Chelsea are plotting a move to sign Nottingham Forest star Murillo as they aim to strengthen at the back in the January transfer window.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 23-year-old is at the top of Enzo Maresca‘s list of defensive targets.
Football Insider revealed in September that Chelsea are working to sign a new centre-back, with the position becoming a priority due to their leaky back line.
Meanwhile, Murillo has returned to top form at Nottingham Forest and starred in their 3-0 win against Liverpool at Anfield last time out.
Chelsea have been keeping tabs on the Brazil international for over a year now, having initially tried to sign him last January, and are prepared to step up their interest once again.

Chelsea plot ‘massive’ Murillo move in January
Brown told Football Insider on 22 September that Chelsea have “no chance” of competing with Arsenal and Liverpool as a result of their ongoing defensive issues.
The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted Maresca wants to improve at the back and sees Murillo as the ideal fit.
“Murillo is going to be a leading contender for Chelsea,” he told Football Insider.
“He doesn’t always look the part, he’s not particularly tall and he’s got a bit of a stocky frame, but he’s very, very effective on the ground and in the air.
“He brings a stability and aggression to the Forest team which has made him a massive player for them in the heart of their defence with the players around him.
“Enzo Maresca wants to bring somebody in, and he would be a great fit.
“From a Chelsea point of view, that’s the type of defender they need, somebody who’s authoritative, commanding and looks like he enjoys defending.
“Plus, he’s very comfortable on the ball which makes him ideal for the way they play.

“From what I hear, they are big admirers of his and if they’re looking to bring in a centre-back when the window opens, he will be one of the first they look at.
“Getting him out of Forest might be a difficult ask, but that’s another question and something I’m sure they will find out if or when they make a move.”
Nottingham Forest’s stance on Murillo exit revealed
Chelsea failed to sign Murillo in January when he opted to renew his terms at the City Ground, but there is a growing feeling he could now be tempted away.
The centre-back’s decision to sign a new deal will extend his stay until 2029, placing the club firmly in the driving seat with regard to his long-term future.
Meanwhile, Sean Dyche is reluctant to lose any of his star players in the January transfer window as they continue to make progress following his appointment.

Jamie Carragher insisted Chelsea won’t challenge for the title this season as their centre-backs and goalkeeper are not good enough.
The Blues have not been shy to spend big in an attempt to improve their squad in recent seasons, but they could face a test getting Murillo out of Nottingham Forest.
