Early Leeds team news: Huge blow as Christiansen confirms 25-year-old out v Ipswich
Thomas Christiansen has confirmed that new Leeds signing Laurens De Bock will not make his debut in Saturday’s Championship match against Ipswich.
After the long-term injury to Luke Ayling, it was thought that left-back De Bock would be fast-tracked into the first team for the Championship clash.
However, talking in the pre-match press conference, as quoted by Leeds Live, Christiansen said the player had returned to Belgium and would not be available.
“He signed, he went back (to Belgium), but in a few days he will be back again with the team, ready to train and ready to join the group.
“It is an interesting player, in the left full-back position we have been searching for, so I think he will be a good signing.
“For this game against Ipswich it will not be possible (for him to play), but for the next week there is good possibilities.”
It’s a huge blow for Leeds, who have struggled in defence and the left-back position even before the injury news about Luke Ayling.
Ayling has been ruled out for the rest of the season after having suffered a serious ankle injury.
Leeds face Ipswich in the 3pm kick-off on Saturday, and start the game seven points ahead of their opponents.
Leeds are currently just outside the play-off spots in seventh place.
