This club is a seller: Caixinha offers discouraging verdict on future of Rangers star

Pedro Caixinha has offered a discouraging verdict on the future of Rangers star Alfredo Morelos, stating the club is a selling one amid reported interest in the striker.

The Scouts in Attendance Twitter account claimed on Monday that scouts from each of Aston Villa, Barnsley, Derby and Reading had watched the 21-year-old on Friday evening as he bagged the opener in the Gers’ 2-2 draw against Partick Thistle.

The young forward has only been a part of the Ibrox club since joining in June for a small sum of £1million from Finnish club HJK Helsinki, but he has made an immediate impact with eight goals in his first nine matches in all competitions.

But, Caixinha has also claimed that it will be a challenge to keep hold of Morelos amid interest from elsewhere and that it is a normal process to develop a player before then selling him for a club like Rangers in their current stage.

“I’m confident that he still needs a lot of work in front him. He is doing great, scoring goals but needs to be coached in the direction we want. He is still a young player, a powerful goal scorer,” told Caixinha, as quoted by the Evening Times.

“We are glad he is being followed by English clubs. That is the reality of the market. We cannot run away from it.

“When this club is a formulator and a seller, in this philosophy at the moment, we need to understand.

“You form the players, create the players, coach the players. After, you sell the players. It is a normal process in football.

“Where does Alfredo need to improve? That is between me and him. We have already had a conversation to point out those details.”

Caixinha’s statement will of course not fill the Rangers fan base with much confidence as they are keen for the club to retain their key players in an attempt to regain their status in both Scotland and Europe.

However, if Morelos is being eyed by English clubs then the Gers will certainly receive a good price for the player which they will then be able to reinvest into the squad.

The Portuguese boss added a huge 11 players to his squad in his first summer in charge, but there may be a need for more players to come in if the club’s form doesn’t pick up.

In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton has claimed it will be a massive week for this Gers senior man.
