Confirmed Aston Villa line-up v Colchester: Bruce makes nine changes

By Harry Sykes

Steve Bruce has announced a new-look starting XI for the Carabao Cup game against Colchester at the Colchester Community Stadium tonight.

His Villa team almost got off to the perfect start against newly-relegated Hull on Saturday, after Gabby Agbonlahor rolled back the years to score after just seven minutes

Unfortunately, Villa couldn’t hold onto their lead and Bruce was agonised to see Jarrod Bowen equalise in the 62nd minute.

The line-up was announced on the official Aston Villa Twitter account on Wednesday evening.

Bruce will be hoping his new-look team has enough to get past the first round of the League Cup, after they failed to do that last season.

Villa lost 3-1 to Luton, despite Jordan Ayew scoring the first goal of the game.

Luton goals from Jake Gray, Cameron McGeehan and Jores Okore sent Villa spinning out the cup and left fans fearing the worst for the season ahead.

As it turned out, the portents were right – Villa finished in a disappointing 13th place in the Championship, way off the play-off places.

However, Bruce has had time to fashion the side in his own way now and his side are currently one of the favourites to land promotion back to the Premier League next season.
