Confirmed: Leeds set to spend big on 12-goal striker who can fire them to the Premier League

Leeds United managing director Angus Kinnear revealed that the club was willing to stretch themselves financially if they could find a striker who could fire them to the Premier League.
Talking on BBC Radio Leeds, as quoted by the Express, he said that the club would stretch themselves if they could find the right player who would score “12 goals between now and the rest of the season”.
Kinnear spent a lot of time talking about the new badge fiasco that dominated the headlines yesterday, but put aside some time to talk about the January transfer window.
“I think if we could identify that player [to fire Leeds to the Premier League] and we had to stretch financially to make it work, we’d make it work,” Kinnear said.
“We’re a board who are prepared to make calculated gambles but finding a combination of someone who we think can do that at his level and can hit the ground running and score 12 goals between now and the end of the season is challenging.
“It’s particularly challenging when you start to look at the financials associated with those players.
“A lot of the names that have been suggested in the press I don’t think have the potential to deliver – or are significantly better than what we have currently.”
Football Insider verdict:
This is cautiously exciting news for Leeds. A lot of striker names have been bandied about this January but it is imperative that Leeds get it right and don’t waste money bringing in someone who doesn’t deliver. Kinnear is right – Leeds need someone who can score 12 goals between now and the end of the season. And that player needs to be affordable. A loan move would be the ideal bridge between the Championship and the Premier League and Ross McCormack could be one possibility. He’s returning from a loan move in Australia and it’s unlikely he’ll get any game time with parent club Villa after falling out with manager Steve Bruce. The next week could be crucial to Leeds’ promotion hopes.
