Cristian Romero wants to open talks on ‘huge money’ Real Madrid move – expert
Cristian Romero is interested in speaking to Real Madrid amid speculation over a “huge money” move away from Tottenham.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Spurs full-back Alan Hutton insisted the centre-back would be keen on the move, but Daniel Levy would not let him go cheaply.
Romero, 26, joined Tottenham in a £42million move from Atalanta in 2021 and has thrived under the management of Ange Postecoglou.
The Argentina international featured 34 times at the heart of the defence last season and has made 98 appearances since joining.
His partnership with Micky van de Ven has become a crucial part of Spurs’ side and Hutton claims they will not let him leave unless a top replacement is lined up.
Football Insider revealed on 7 June that the club are looking to sign a new centre-back this summer to add strength in depth behind Romero, rather than to replace him.
Tottenham to demand ‘huge’ fee from Real Madrid for Cristian Romero
Reports have claimed the Champions League winners are targeting a deal to sign Romero this summer, but Tottenham are reluctant to see him leave.
Hutton insisted any deal would have to be one they could not refuse, but shared that the defender would want to speak to the club about a move.
“If we’re talking about Real Madrid, I’m sure he’ll want to speak to them,” he told Football Insider.
“But for Daniel Levy to sell somebody who’s a main player in the team, it would have to be for huge money to allow him to go.
“They still need more options to come in.
“They can’t allow Romero to leave and not have a top-level centre-back ready to come in for the start of the season.

“I wouldn’t want to see him leave.
“I think him and Van de Ven are a very solid partnership and Van de Ven makes him better as well.”
