Danny Mills has backed Leeds United for slapping a £20million price tag on in-demand winger Jack Clarke.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-United defender does not believe the Yorkshire giants are pricing Clarke out of the reach of Tottenham and his other Premier League suitors.
He claims the 18-year-old winger will be worth “way more than £20million” if he joins a Premier League club this summer and makes an immediate impact in his first month.
Football Insider revealed last month that Tottenham are preparing a move to sign Elland Road academy product after encouragement that he could be lured away this summer for a significant fee, while there is also interest in him from the likes of Bournemouth and Southampton.
Asked about Clarke’s price tag, Mills told Football Insider: “Why not get £20million? Tell Tottenham, ‘Pay the money we want, or he is not going’.
“If Jack Clarke plays four or five games for Tottenham, and does pretty well, he will suddenly be worth way more than £20million.
“Other clubs will be saying, ‘look, he can play in the Premier League’ and his valuation will have increased. £20million is expensive, but if he is as good as we think he can be, it doesn’t look that much of a gamble.”
Marcelo Bielsa fast-tracked Clarke into the senior Leeds side last autumn and he responded with a series of thrilling cameos that made Premier League sides sit up and take notice.
United rebuffed bids for the teenage star in January but there is a growing sense he could leave this summer, with his contract set to expire in two years’ time.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that Wolves have asked for another key Whites player in part-exchange for Helder Costa.
