Declan Rice and Gabriel Magalhaes react to David Raya announcement at Arsenal

David Raya has attracted the attention of his teammates following a new announcement concerning the Arsenal goalkeeper.

Only Nottingham Forest‘s Matz Sels has more Premier League clean sheets than the Spaniard this season, though he did win the Golden Glove last term, beating second-place Jordan Pickford by three.

He also has one of the highest save percentages in the division, closely behind Chelsea’s under-pressure shot-stopper Robert Sanchez and Mark Flekken of Brentford [FotMob].

Raya, rightly, earns plenty of plaudits at the Emirates Stadium, with the Gunners aiming for their first-ever Champions League title, but it is his Premier League displays which have seen many take notice.

David Raya wins award for incredible Man United double-save

On Instagram (10 April), the club’s official page wrote: “David’s double. Raya has been awarded Premier League’s Save of the Month for March.”

The post earned likes from Gunners’ duo Declan Rice and Gabriel Magalhaes, with the goalkeeper pulling off a brilliant double-save against Man United during a 1-1 draw on Sunday, 9 March.

Mikel Arteta handed a double-boost in the space of a few days

Football Insider verdict

On Tuesday, 8 April, a world-class brace from Rice and a Mikel Merino goal saw Arsenal claim a shock victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League, seeing them put one foot in the semi-final.

Vinicius Junior was eager to apologise to the Real Madrid fans after a rather toothless performance away from the Bernabeu, and Arteta’s side will feel confident ahead of the second leg.

The return of Bukayo Saka has given the squad an incredible boost, especially after Gabriel’s untimely season-ending injury, but Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz and Riccardo Calafiori all remain sidelined.

Beating Liverpool to the Premier League title is no longer an option, now with an 11-point gap, so all focus must be on getting to the Champions League final, which is within touching distance.

If they can get through to the semi-final, they will be greeted with PSG or Aston Villa, with Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan all on the other side of the draw.
