'Doesn't work like that' - Gerrard makes Rangers transfer claim about Liverpool
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is adamant that he isn’t going to try get a host of players from former club Liverpool – insisting “it doesn’t work like that” despite his Anfield connections.
The Light Blues have signed Ovie Ejaria on loan from the Reds and been linked with moves for a number of Liverpool youngsters.
Gerrard insists though that the main criteria is whether a player makes the Light Blues a better team rather than which club they are moving to Ibrox from.
“If there’s a player that we identify that we think is going to help Rangers and help this team become stronger, help us to be successful in the future we’ll go for that player whether he be at Liverpool or whether he be at any other club,” Gerrard said, as quoted by STV.
“Of course I’ve got connections at Liverpool that doesn’t mean I’m going to go and try and get all their players, it doesn’t work like that.
“How we go about it is we try and identify the best players that are going to make that position a lot stronger in terms of the squad and how it looks and then we go and try and get that player in.”

Football Insider verdict:
The Light Blues can’t simply rely on bringing in large numbers of loan players from Liverpool and Gerrard will be well aware of how much of a risk that can be. While there’s never going to be a problem with using his contacts at his old club to improve the Gers, Gerrard seems determined to do it on his own and not rely on Liverpool. Nobody is ever going to complain if it makes the side better but there’s always a risk of having to rebuild your side year after year if you rely too much on the loan market. Looking at the players Gerrard has already brought to Ibrox this summer then it’s clear that he’s looking to improve the Gers rather than please his old bosses at Anfield by taking a number of youngsters on loan. One or two might still head to Ibrox from Liverpool this summer and as long as they are quality players then there won’t be a problem.
