Done deal: Leeds announce another new signing as Christiansen revolution continues

By Harry Sykes

Leeds have announced that Jay-Roy Grot has joined the club and become the latest new signing for Thomas Christiansen.

Christiansen had said that he would move fast to sign a replacement for Chris Wood, after the 30-goal striker left to try his luck in the Premier League.

And he’s been true to his word as Grot has joined the club on a four-year deal.

He will be eligible to play in the Championship game against Nottingham Forest on Saturday in the early evening kick-off, but it is not known yet whether the 19-year-old is seen as ready for first-team action.

His signing was teased in a tweet released on the Leeds twitter account on Thursday morning and followed up with the official confirmation.

Shortly after the signing was announced Grot said on the official Leeds site, “It has been my dream to play in England and so to do that at a club like Leeds is really exciting.”

It’s been a busy summer for Leeds with significant incomings including Matthew Pennington, Samuel Saiz, Ezgjan Alioski, Mateusz Klich, Celb Ekuban, Felix Weidwald and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.

It’s a huge amount of players to bring into a team that only narrowly missed out on the play-off places, but Christiansen has already gelled his new-look squad and they are producing some impressive results.

Leeds beat Sunderland 2-0 at the Stadium of Light last Saturday, which he will have been doubly proud of after the disruptive news of Chris Wood being omitted from the squad.

Goals are coming from everywhere at the moment, with both Samu Saiz and Kemar Roofe netting hat-tricks in the Carabao Cup, albeit against lower league opposition.

Now there’s another new face that will want to get off the mark as quickly as possible, after his move from NEC Nejmegen.

Not a whole lot is known about Grot apart from the fact he’s highly-rated at his old club and he looks exceptionally powerful for a 19-year-old.

In other Leeds news, fans have reacted with disbelief to the Whites’ Carabao Cup draw.
