Newcastle have offloaded striker Ivan Toney to Wigan on loan for the season, it was confirmed on Wednesday evening.
Football Insider revealed earlier in the day that the 21-year-old was undergoing a medical with the Latics ahead of a temporary transfer away from the club.

Toney enjoyed two loan spells in the last campaign, starting with League One outfit Shrewsbury before joining Scunthorpe, who are also in the English third tier in January.
Across both loans he managed a fine return of 14 goals in 43 appearances, while also turning provider on eight occasions.
He will now be hoping for a similar return at Wigan, who will be gunning for promotion back to the Championship after suffering relegation in the last campaign.
Toney also has three years remaining on his contract at Newcastle and he will be aiming to impress before returning to the Toon next summer.
Football Insider verdict:
Given his age and the fact that he has made just four senior appearances for Newcastle at 21, it is unlikely that he will break into the Magpies’ first team in the future. However, this loan move will certainly present a good platform for him after he impressed at Scunthorpe, who were also pushing for League One promotion in the last campaign. The Wigan side also boasts Will Grigg upfront and if Toney’s move does prove to be successful then the Greater Manchester club could be the perfect permanent residence for the Newcastle man.
In other Newcastle transfer news, the Magpies have been installed joint favourites to sign this Liverpool striker.
