'Door open' for multiple big-money Liverpool deals after Salah contract update - pundit

Noel Whelan has suggested some Liverpool stars could demand new and improved contracts if Mohamed Salah signs a £350,000-a-week deal.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker claimed the 29-year-old’s prospective terms “leaves the door open” to other players asking for more money.

As revealed by Football Insider (14th October), the Reds are set to submit a contract offer to Salah worth a total of £82million.

The club’s American owners were sceptical about handing out such a lucrative deal to a player heading into his 30s.

However, they accept Salah is a special case and want a deal tied up by January.

His terms are set to eclipse those of his Liverpool teammates.

Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson and Andy Robertson have all recently signed new deals.

However, Whelan suggested some Anfield stars may now look to capitalise on Salah’s deal to negotiate new terms.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “There might be some players that feel that it gives them an opportunity to maybe not ask for the same, but maybe go in a little bit higher on their next contract deal.

“It leaves the door open, absolutely. Of course it does because it’d be well documented and reported what he will be getting.

“There might be certain players, I don’t think it’ll be all players. They’ll realise the importance of Mo Salah to Liverpool Football Club.”

“I think it’s no different from Man City, Chelsea, Man United for these big players and big clubs.

“I don’t think anybody will begrudge him or say he doesn’t deserve it.

“They know how important Mo Salah is to Liverpool and them being successful as a team.”
