Five wretched signings - why McParland deserves the Rangers axe
COMMENT By Will Butcher
Rangers head of recruitment Frank McParland is reportedly set to quit his position at Ibrox after growing unhappy with the resources at his disposal.
After the Sun claimed he is about to quit his job following a number of questionable signings in the summer, Football Insider assesses five players that have contributed to McParland’s potential downfall and why he deserves the axe.
Obviously, things did not work out for the one-time England international. Gambling off the pitch and arguments on it, McParland could be excused with the signing of Barton as it was the midfielder’s non-football related actions that caused him to leave earlier in the season. He was always going to be a big gamble and, while he had the talent to shine in the Scottish Premiership, his temperament let him down again.

Similarly, luck was not on McParland’s side over Kranjcar. Although the Croatia international is known for his crocked history, no-one would could have predicted his season-ending knee injury. However, signing an injury-plagued veteran is another blot on the head of recruitment’s record.
Signed for a pricey £1.5million, Garner’s lack of proficiency in front of goal for Preston should have been a sign for the Gers. The Gers’ number seven scored just six goals for the Lancashire side in 44 appearances during 2015-16. With just three goals for the Gers, Garner was a transfer that could have been avoided.
The veteran goalkeeper has already left just six months after signing for the Gers, and been replaced by former Newcastle stopper Jak Alnwick. He failed to even test undisputed first-choice goalkeeper Wes Foderingham, and has now been shipped out to Wigan.
Again, Senderos’ failure to impress was foreseeable. A long way away from his best, the injury-prone defender has struggled to find a home in recent years. His lack of fitness and match practice showed in his Gers debut, as the Switzerland international received his marching orders in a 5-1 defeat to Old Firm rivals Celtic. The former Arsenal and AC Milan defender has made just three appearances in total.
In other Rangers transfer news, the Gers should go all out to replace McParland with this senior Tottenham man.
