‘Elliot Anderson is coming back home’ – Newcastle fans wowed

Newcastle United fans are calling for the club to re-sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest after his performances for England Under-21s.

Lee Carsley’s side lifted the UEFA Euro U21 trophy after a 3-2 win against Germany, with first-half goals from Harvey Elliott and Omari Hutchinson giving them a 2-0 lead.

Nelson Weiper pulled one back just before half-time before Paul Nebel scored an equaliser to send the game to extra time where Jonathan Rowe headed home the winner.

However, it was Anderson’s performance which grabbed the attention of the watching Newcastle fans as they clamoured for his return to St James’ Park.

The midfielder played 99 minutes in the final, having featured as a key part of the starting XI in all six games, and has received widespread praise for his display.

Some Newcastle fans went as far as to suggest they could spend upwards of £50million on bringing him home as part of Eddie Howe‘s ambitious summer transfer plans.

Newcastle told to re-sign Elliot Anderson after Forest claim

Anderson left Newcastle to join Nottingham Forest in 2024 as Eddie Howe’s side were forced to cash in on academy graduates in a last-ditch attempt to raise funds.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson told Football Insider in January that Newcastle would have breached PSR if not for the sales of Anderson and Yankuba Minteh.

The 22-year-old midfielder went on to make 42 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring two goals and providing six assists.

His recent displays for Forest had earned shouts for a senior England place, and he will have done his chances no harm after an exceptional U21 Euros campaign.

Fans call for Elliot Anderson return after England displays

Magpies fans are not alone in calling for his return, as former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider in March that Newcastle must re-sign Anderson.

The Forest star came through the academy at St James’ Park and remains very highly-rated there, while he is still admired among the supporters.

Following his display against Germany, Newcastle fans took to social media to express their pride, labelling him “outstanding” and calling for his return.
