Elliott Anderson and ‘ferocious’ Arsenal player wow media after international displays

England’s 3-0 victory over Wales saw many impressive performances, but one star stood out the most at Wembley.

Bukayo Saka was called “world class” as England named a team without a Man United, Liverpool or Chelsea player for the first time in 33 years.

Aston Villa duo Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins got on the score sheet alongside a sublime curling effort from Saka.

The resounding win means England got into their World Cup qualifying match with Latvia full of confidence even without captain Harry Kane.

Declan Rice praised as ‘real leader’ in England team

Stephen Warnock loves Tuchel for keeping standards high in the England camp, and the Three Lions were 3-0 up inside 20 minutes against Wales.

However, Tuchel criticised the England fans for their support against Wales, demanding more from the home crowd.

The England boss though could have no complaints about his sides performance, and Henry Winter on X, [9 October], believes Declan Rice is making a formidable partnership with Nottingham Forest‘s Elliott Anderson in midfield.

Declan Rice undroppable,” Winter claimed.

“Real leader, second time as captain in his 69 caps, corners so important, brings energy, passing and a ferocious press.

Midfield partnership coming on superbly with Anderson. Such an important player for Arsenal, too, embodying their stronger mentality this season, and will play 50+ games (already played 11).

Long old season, club and country need him fresh and firing like this.”

Rice captained England in Kane’s absence ahead of the greater experience of John Stones and Jordan Henderson.

Elliott Anderson likened to Liverpool great

Anderson only earned his first England call-up in the previous international break, but the 22-year-old now looks likely to make the World Cup squad.

Winter thinks Anderson only needs to add one more thing to his game.

Anderson again. And again. And again. Third international, third terrific display,” Winter said.

Elliott Anderson stats for England vs Wales.

Plays with a maturity that belies his 22 years. Breaks up attacks, and starts them. Sits in midfield and allows Rice to attack.

Far, far too early for comparisons, and different positions, but something of the Steven Gerrard about his uncomplicated determination to win and love of playing. Just needs to add a goal threat.

With Crystal Palace ace Adam Wharton continuing to be overlooked, Anderson looks set to accompany Rice in midfield, though the injured Jude Bellingham and Cole Palmer will return to have a say in that conversation.
