Euro giants contact Liverpool mainstay agent after shock Klopp decision - Sky Sports journalist
By Danny Wright
Napoli have been in contact with the agent of Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, according to a reliable journalist.
Sky Sports Italy reporter Gianluca Di Marzio claimed on his personal website that the European giants have turned their attention to Mignolet, 29, after Jurgen Klopp shocked Reds fans on Sunday by omitting him from the squad to face Arsenal in the Premier League.
It is understood that Napoli and former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina is being eyed up by cash-rich Paris St. Germain and the Serie A side may move for the Anfield stopper if he leaves.
Belgian international Mignolet emerged as Klopp’s No 1 goalkeeper for the most part of last season and appeared to continue being a mainstay between the sticks this term having started all four matches across all competitions before Sunday’s surprise development.
Sky Sports has recently reported that the ex-Sunderland goalkeeper is set to hold crunch talks with Klopp about his future at Anfield as he looks for more clarity over being dropped for the 4-0 win over Arsenal.

Football Insider Verdict
Mignolet has every right to be annoyed about being dropped by Klopp, especially for such a big game. That could lead to him wanting to quit Anfield and if Napoli come calling, it may be hard to resist joining a side where he could be guaranteed to be the No 1 choice goalkeeper if Reina packs his bags and leaves for PSG. Even if Mignolet does leave, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool would even need to replace him. Karius will come good eventually after being given time to settle down on Merseyside while Danny Ward has shown in his loan spell last season that he is capable of being a solid back-up or even starting choice for the Reds.
