Liverpool senior player on collision course with Klopp after Sunday development - Sky Sports

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet looks to be on a collision course with Jurgen Klopp having been axed from the match day squad to face Arsenal on Sunday, according to a report.

Sky Sports claimed on their live transfer blog on Sunday [01:32pm] that Mignolet, 29, will hold crunch talks with the Anfield boss after being left unhappy by Sunday’s development.

It is understood that the Belgian goalkeeper is simply being rested for the fixture after being told about Klopp’s decision to start Loris Karius and name Danny Ward on the bench, however Mignolet is looking for more clarity on the situation.

The former Sunderland goalkeeper, who is one of the more senior members of the Liverpool squad, has been the No 1 goalkeeper at Anfield for the whole of 2017 so far, with Karius’ last league appearance coming last December.

The Liverpool Echo reported earlier on Sunday that Karius and Ward will jump up in the pecking order to accommodate of Mignolet’s surprise omission.

Football Insider Verdict

Liverpool have three goalkeepers that could all play in the first-team this season. Karius was originally brought in to oust Mignolet from the main squad, but after poor form last season, Klopp seemed to reverse that logic. The Belgian ‘keeper hasn’t been underperforming from his usual level this season, but he seems like he may be very annoyed about Klopp’s decision. If Mignolet wants to leave, there is just limited time for that to happen. Newcastle are one Premier League team that have been widely reported to be in the hunt for a goalkeeper this season. Perhaps a loan move to St. James’ Park could be in the offing?
