Everton and Nottingham Forest told to lead Premier League mutiny ahead of meeting – Wyness

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has claimed owners of Premier League clubs like Nottingham Forest will be “calling for the heads” of top-flight chiefs.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested chief executive Richard Masters and chairperson Alison Brittain should take the brunt of the “brutal” criticism.

Everton, Nottingham Forest and now Leicester City have all been charged with breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) this season.

That is despite an imminent change to Uefa-style regulations – which will see club spending capped at a percentage of revenue.

‘It’s time to call for heads’, says Wyness after Nottingham Forest points deduction

Points deductions have already been handed to Everton and Forest with both sides battling relegation in the final 10 games of the 2023-24 campaign.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I hope there isn’t another round of legal challenges.

“But I hope the owners of clubs like Nottingham Forest, Everton and Leicester have some pretty brutal words with Richard Masters and the invisible chairperson Alison Brittain.

“There’s got to be some tough words spoken.

“I would love to be a fly on the wall at the Premier League’s summer meeting this year.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if the owners are calling for the heads of Masters and Brittain – and I think that’s a shared feeling across most of the 20 clubs.

“The value of these clubs has been diminished, and the owners won’t be happy.

“The Premier League could have found cleverer solutions to get around this. We’re changing over to the Uefa rules, why not just call an amnesty until they come in?

“Inflation hasn’t even been allowed for in the rules. The £105m figure could easily now be £200m.
