Everton fans have gone ballistic at manager Sam Allardyce on social media after he claimed the club’s expectations were no different to those at either Newcastle United or West Ham.

The former England boss, who was in charge of both the Magpies and the Hammers, arrived at Goodison Park to take over from Ronald Koeman, who despite a summer of big spending saw his slide slip into a relegation battle early on in the campaign.

Since taking over from the Dutch boss, Allardyce has managed to guide the Toffees to ninth in the table, but still finds his men closer to the bottom three than sixth placed Arsenal in terms of points.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s clash against Burnley, a match which he knows will put Everton level on points with the Clarets if they can secure victory, Allardyce was quoted by the Guardian’s Andy Hunter as comparing his former clubs to the Blues, and claiming that all three had the same expectations despite their history.

Being compared to two clubs battling for survival this season had the Everton faithful out in hoards on Twitter, lambasting their manager and insisting he did not understand what it meant to be part of the Toffees.

Here, Football Insider has rounded up a selection of the supporters’ best tweets:

Newcastle currently sit 15th in the Premier League table, five points off Allardyce and his men, while West Ham are four points adrift in 13th.
