Everton plan to sell star man to keep Jarrad Branthwaite – sources

Everton are expected to sell Amadou Onana soon in a bid to keep hold of star defender Jarrad Branthwaite, sources have told Football Insider

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed the Merseyside giants are willing to sacrifice the Belgium international to help them comply with the profit and sustainability (PSR) regulations.

Football Insider revealed last month Everton will need to sell at least one of their “big” stars before they submit their accounts at the end of June.

Arsenal, Bayern Munich and PSG have all shown an interest in signing Onana this summer as an exit from Goodison Park is on the cards.

Football Insider revealed last month the Merseysiders will accept a £50million bid for the midfielder’s services to ensure the likes of Branthwaite remains at the club next season.

The 22-year-old is under contract until 2027.

Everton to sell Amadou Onana after dip in form

Onana enjoyed a strong first season at Everton after joining the club in a £33million deal from French side Lille in 2022.

But he hasn’t really kicked on over the past year after being dropped from the starting lineup in four of the final six games of last season.

The Belgian has been heavily linked with a move in recent months as the club look to get on top of their financial situation.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider the midfielder’s value could rocket this summer if he performs well for Belgium at the European Championships.

The Merseysiders are expected to cash in on Onana over the coming weeks as they look to ensure Branthwaite remains at Goodison next season.

Manchester United had their first bid knocked back for the England international after Football Insider revealed on 15 June Everton are looking for a £90million fee to let him leave this summer.
