Everton player ratings v Watford: Summer signing is a 4/10

By Will Butcher

Football Insider rates the Everton players after they lost 3-2 to Watford in Saturday’s Premier League lunchtime kick-off.

Maarten Stekelenburg – 5 Could do little about both goals, distribution was good.

Seamus Coleman – 6 Combative and hard working as always, but failed to strike a partnership with right winger Gerard Deulofeu.

Ashley Williams 4 – Nowhere to be seen for Stefano Okaka’s equaliser and Sebastian Prodl’s winner, as the Nigerian superbly flicked the ball into the net.

Ramiro Funes Mori 5 – Was in the way of Watford’s defence to provide a number of important clearances. Not commanding enough from set pieces as Prodl was left in acres to head in.

Leighton Baines 6 – A constant threat on the left flank, as he got forward to join the attack and deliver a number of dangerous balls into the Watford box.

Gareth Barry 7 – Showed both class and maturity in the middle of the park. Wonderful assist for Lukaku’s goal.

Idrissa Gueye 6 – Worked hard for Everton, tracked his runners and looked calm in possession.

James McCarthy 6 – Worked hard in an unusual advanced role but failed to provide the spark that a playmaker of Ross Barkley’s quality would offer.

Kevin Mirallas 5 – Struggled to make an impact on the match, as Everton’s opener seemed to wake up Walter Mazzarri’s side. The Toffees missed Bolasie.

Gerard Deulofeu 5 – Similarly to Mirallas, Deulofeu was marshalled well by Watford’s tight defence and struggled to get involved.

Romelu Lukaku 8 – Calm and collected as he stroked home Everton’s opener, before powering a superbly-timed header past Gomes.

Subs:

Ross Barkley (On for Gueye, 64 mins) 6

Enner Valencia (On for Mirallas, 71 mins) 5

Aaron Lennon (On for Baines, 83 mins ) 7

In other Everton news, this Premier League winger would be a shrewd signing if Koeman could strike a deal to see him move to Merseyside in January.
