Ex-Premier League referee: Maguire set for extended ban as controversial Man United footage emerges

Keith Hackett has insisted Harry Maguire can have no complaints after he was sent off for Man United in their embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Watford.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee praised John Moss for not ignoring Maguire’s grappling on Ismaïla Sarr.

The Man United captain was shown a second yellow when he hacked down Tom Cleverley after a heavy touch.

He will now serve a one-game ban and will miss his side’s crucial game with Chelsea at Old Trafford next week.

Maguire has started 11 of Man United’s 12 Premier League games this term as he missed the draw with Everton with a calf injury.

“Manchester United, it is all over the papers, didn’t turn up,” Hackett told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“What was good in this match was John Moss punished Maguire’s reckless challenge that was the second yellow. He also punished the two hands wrapped around his opponent.

“That was a pretty correct process by the referee.

“It’s built-in that we ignore these things, but we shouldn’t. For me, in fairness, John Moss had one of his better games.

“It’s been mentioned a lot that Maguire usually gets away with grappling his opponents.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Man United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked the day after the defeat at Vicarage Road with his side on a run of one win in their last seven Premier League games.

Football Insider revealed (November 10) Solskjaer was set to be relieved of his duties if he could not lead a turnaround after the international break.

In other news, Man United are to hold talks with a 56-year-old today and he could get the job permanently.
