Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater is undergoing a medical at Burnley ahead of a season-long loan deal, Football Insider understands.
Chelsea are willing to let Drinkwater leave as he does not figure in Frank Lampard’s plans going forward at Stamford Bridge.
The 29-year-old has not featured for Chelsea in pre-season and he is ready to move on to get his career back on track.
Drinkwater has made just five Premier League starts in two years at Chelsea since joining from Leicester.
He signed for £34million after his contribution in helping Leicester City win the Premier League but the move hasn’t worked out for the player at all, except for financially – he’s on £100,000-a-week at Chelsea [Spotrac].
Burnley boss Sean Dyche has been looking to strengthen his midfield options and he sees Drinkwater as someone who can improve his side.
A Burnley source has told Football Insider that the deal should go through on Thursday with the player currently undergoing a medical at the club.
In other Chelsea news, Darren Bent said rivals Arsenal should snap up this PL giant who is “one of the best”.
