Gabriel Agbonlahor has been left wowed as Rangers near the signing of Bournemouth pair Jack Simpson and Nnamdi Ofoborh on pre-contract deals.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa and England striker heaped praise on manager Steven Gerrard for already planning for next season.

Football Insider revealed last Saturday Rangers were making a progress on a pre-contract agreement with Simpson, a 24-year-old defender.

This site then revealed the Ibrox giants have agreed a deal with his Cherries teammate Ofoborh, 21, which is set to be announced this week.

The pair are out of contract in the summer and Rangers are able to negotiate pre-contract deals with them due to cross-border rules.

It comes as the Gers announced the capture of Aberdeen’s Scott Wright on a similar deal earlier this week.

Asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Rangers’ transfer strategy of targeting young out of contract players, Agbonlahor said: “Very good business.

“Steven Gerrard will know what he’ll have available in the summer.

“So he’ll know if he can get little deals like this done now it makes sense rather than waiting when you’ll have to pay more and other clubs might steal them.

“Very clever from Rangers.

“Steven Gerrard cannot do anything wrong at the moment. He’s making all the right decisions and he’s looking like a great manager.”

Both Simpson and Ofoborh have had limited first-team experience and have played just 12 Championship games between them this term.

Midfielder Ofoborh, a former Nigeria Under-20 international, is still waiting for his full Bournemouth league debut.

In other news, a top pundit has claimed a Rangers 21-year-old is drinking in last chance saloon after a big development.
