Alex Bruce claims that Celtic “must have some signings lined up” after Jozo Simunovic was allowed to leave Parkhead on a free transfer.
The former Kilmarnock centre-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, admits it was a “surprise” to see the Hoops let the 25-year-old depart despite having a one-year extension option they could have triggered.
Celtic announced last week that Simunovic and winger Jonny Hayes would be leaving the club at the end of their contracts.
As revealed by Football Insider, Celtic are also willing to let first-team regular Kristoffer Ajer leave the club if their £20million valuation is met.
With one centre-back out the door and the Hoops ready to sell another, Bruce claims that Neil Lennon’s must have already got their targets in place at Parkhead.
“I was a little bit surprised to be honest,” Bruce told Football Insider.
“He’s done alright whenever I’ve seen him play but sometimes at the end of the season you get the odd surprise about people leaving and what have you. Obviously he wants to go explore other avenues, he’s done his time at Celtic, had a good time and it’s time to move on.
“If they lose Ajer as well, a lot of talk about him too, that could leave them a little bit short. If they do lose the two of them, well, they must have some signings lined up.”
Simunovic leaves Celtic having played 125 times for the Bhoys, although only 16 of those appearances came this season.
Ajer meanwhile has been a mainstay for Lennon, with 49 games under his belt across all competitions this term.
