Darren Bent has revealed he wants to see Keinan Davis playing “every week” at Aston Villa after his goal-scoring performance against Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday night.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Villa and England striker says that he is excited by the prospect of the 21-year-old but that it will be tough for Dean Smith to hand him regular game time as he looks to secure Premier League football for next season.
As revealed by Football Insider, Smith has extremely high hopes for Davis and believes he could be worth as much as £15million by the end of the campaign.
Bent says that handing youngster’s game time is difficult for newly promoted sides but that he hopes Smith will give Davis the chance to impress as the season progresses.
Asked if he expected to see more of Davis this season, he told Football Insider: “You’d hope so, you’d like to think so. It’s tough, I’m always wanting youngsters to play but it’s tough when a team’s just been promoted in the Premier League, it’s a fine line between staying up and developing young players.
“Hopefully we’ll see a lot a more of him and hopefully at some stage he can force his way into the team and the squad every week.”
Davis has appeared twice this season, his outing against Crewe his first start of the campaign after three minutes in the Premier League clash against Bournemouth.
He is approaching 50 first-team appearances for the Villans, of which 19 have come among the starting XI, while he has four goals and four assists under his belt.
