Exclusive: Hutton delivers Rangers title verdict after latest big signing announcement
Alan Hutton believes Rangers have enough to challenge Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title this season.
The former Rangers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insisted that Steven Gerrard has improved his squad this summer, something which he believes will be “key” to challenging.
The Glasgow giants announced the £4.5million signing of former Leeds striker Kemar Roofe on Tuesday, after Football Insider revealed he was on his way to Ibrox for a medical two hours earlier.
Delighted to be joining @rangersfc and can’t wait for my new adventure to begin. Rangers are a huge club with ambition and I couldn’t be more ready to meet up with my new teammates and get started! 🔴⚪️🔵 pic.twitter.com/QILIlh8Q4o

The 27-year-old was joined by Cedric Itten who signed from St Gallen in Switzerland, the two strikers have both signed four-year-deals.
Capturing the pair made it seven summer signings for Steven Gerrard and Hutton believes his men now have what it takes to challenge their Glasgow rivals.
“That is the million dollar question,” Hutton told Football Insider.

“I hope so, Celtic looked very impressive on Sunday. They were very free-flowing and Edouard was top class.
“It’s going to be difficult, I think their squad now is stronger than last year and that is key for Gerrard.
“It is about improvement year on year and I think he has improved the squad. It’s always been difficult.
“We know how they’ve dipped at Christmas time so it’s going to be a big test for them, but as we’re looking at the moment they are stronger and I do believe they can challenge Celtic.”
Roofe has been a Rangers target for some time, amid growing fears that star man Alfredo Morelos is close to leaving the club.
As revealed by Football Insider last week, the Colombia international is in advanced talks to join Lille in a deal worth £17million.
Roofe cost Anderlecht £5.5m last summer, as he managed seven goals during 16 matches in an injury ravaged campaign.
The 27-year-old has goal-scoring pedigree south of the border, having earned his move to the Belgian giants following a 15-goal haul for Leeds United in 2018-19.
