Michael Brown has tipped Tottenham Hotspur to complete a deal for a defender before Monday’s transfer deadline.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Spurs and Manchester City midfielder believes Jose Mourinho will try to improve his squad before the window closes.
Football Insider revealed last week that the north London club are working on signing Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar.
It is understood that the club are close to agreeing personal terms with the Slovakian and remain hopeful that an offer worth over £30million will be enough to tempt the Italian giants.
Asked by Football Insider whether Jose Mourinho will sign a defender before the 5th October, Brown said: “I think he’ll be trying, he’s tried to improve the squad.
“He said it’s like a jigsaw the squad at the moment that Jose’s got.
“I think the pressure was on them in the week. He tried to deflect about the cup game and how they’re not going to be strong enough to compete.
“He’ll be delighted, you saw him running down the tunnel and it maybe gives them a bit of confidence in the squad.
“They had a great result in their European game as well and the big question will be whether they’ll be any more outs with the ins.”
This site revealed that there are up to seven senior Spurs stars could be set to leave the club by Monday.
The club are working on trimming the wage bill to free some vital cash to fund more deals.
Juan Foyth, Danny Rose, Serge Aurier, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Paulo Gazzaniga could all leave on permanent deals.
Meanwhile the club are also keen to send young wide players Ryan Sessegnon and Jack Clarke out on loan.
